We're heading out shortly, finally getting all packed up. Going to Madison to spend Christmas with our kids and my Dad. Hope everyone else is enjoying family and friends this season as well!

Hi Di -- We drove. It's actually only about 90 miles to Madison, Wisconsin. We got a later start than I'd hoped on the 24th -- it always takes me longer to pack than I expect. Weather for travel was not too bad. Snowing lightly, but not much.

We got to Madison just before 8 PM and unpacked the car as fast as possible. Our son was already at the motel, we'd planned to meet up with him for Christmas Eve dinner...

But apparently 99% of the restaurants in Madison close early on the 24th -- we drove past a dozen places all which we either dark, or they were still open and full of patrons, but they weren't letting anyone new in the door.

Bummer! So we ended up having dinner at Denny's. Can't say it was our finest Christmas Eve dinner, but it is one we will remember and talk about for years!

Clearly Madison had more snow than we did. They has such high piles by the street corners it was hard to peek out to see if there was any traffic!
