I think I heard this on the news the other day, Jabber. I believe the reasoning had to do with the recent situations of death by lethal injection not being effective. And the prisoners being forced to die a painful lingering death. Or just not dying.

I believe I heard that Utah legislators felt that a firing squad was quick, inexpensive and effective.

OK, I did a bit of online research. according to the BBC, the drugs for lethal injections are not always available. So the firing squad offers an alternative option.

I'm sure there's much to be discussed here...
