I'm sure by now most of you have heard that Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg is publishing a new book of her mother's memoirs, titled " "Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy".

As far as I have heard in the TV interviews I've seen on it, Jackie is quite candid - to the point of being controversial.

Of course, she may have said things she wouldn't have wished to share publicly, since she thought she was speaking on the condition that the book not be published until 100 years after her death, sort of like Mark Twain's recently published autobiography.

Except of course, that it has not been 100 years, and heirs of the people she spoke of are still alive.

Apparently there is to be more, as a part of the memorial to 50 years since JFK was elected, as there is a video clip on Amazon that promotes a TV interview with Diane Sawyer, which is supposed to air in a few days - September 14th..

In doing online research on the book, I came across an article which makes it very clear that Caroline is controlling her family's public legacy.

As she has been so private before, I wonder why she is going so public now?

I guess I can't really comment authoritatively until I have read the book or seen the TV show. But I am curious what thoughts our BWS community members have on this.

I remember -- Yikes, could it have actually been the summer of 1960? -- Jack and Jackie flew into Truax Field, the predecessor to the current Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin -- for a campaign trail speech and hand-shaking event.

My mother, a died-in-the-wool Republican, decided she was going to see them, and packed us three kids, ages 8, 6 and 3, into the car, telling us this was an historic opportunity.

I don't actually remember seeing them land, I only recall the hot sun and the long lines of cars snaking down the highway, all bound for the airport.

There were no jetways back then - not even any jets -- passengers had to debark from the prop planes down those long metal stairways.

Talk about charisma - that couple had it in spades! Which is why I will be watching the Diane Sawyer interview on TV tonight.
