Just had a bat in the house. Didn't know where to post this
unholy announcement, so I put it here. Was vacuuming the stairs
from the living room up to the bedrooms, when a bat flew inches above my head. Well I let out an unlady-like howl and the creature flew into the computer room. It swooped above WB's head! He locked it into that front bedroom, then took out a screen and hit at it with that. After a few minutes of cat'n mouse, it finally flew out of the house!!! Crimme, what a scare!!! sick

I've had birds the cats dragged into the house, but never bats. That must have been scary! Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, bats in the belfry!! smile

Don't it though! A bat got into our farmhouse when I was a kid.
Mother and Grandmother went nuts. I've been scared of bats
ever since then. We have lots of weeping willows in our yard and
with the county park across the street, we see a huge number of bats flying around at dawn and dusk. And we grow 'em big around these parts. I saw a TV report onetime that some town, I think in Texas, thrives on the darn things. Won't be moving there anytime soon! LOL...

Glad all is well, Jabber! What a scary thing to experience when you are minding your own business and vacuuming away!!

We had a small bat in the house about a year ago, and while I suspect it too was frightened, it was one of the most scary things I have encountered. It came in through the door from the garage while I was taking out the trash, and headed into Steve's office.

He started hollering and batting at it and managed to get it back out into the hall. By then I came running and we managed to shoo it back out into the garage. Then I opened the garage door so that it could find its way outside...

For awhile it stayed hanging on a wall in the garage, but eventually it was gone. Whew!

I love watching the bats come out here just as the sun starts sinking. They swoop and change directions so fast it's hard to see where they're going. And sometimes I can hear them twittering as they fly overhead. I've contemplated building a bat house but figure the neighbors wouldn't like it. There are some plants here that only bats pollinate; and I've heard that bat guano is a fantastic fertilizer.

Had grandma not freaked me out years ago, perhaps I'd have a
different feeling about these creatures. And since I don't want
to scare you silly, I'll not share her words. They swoop around here like crazy too, at night and early morning. As long as they stay outside, I'm cool with it. But I'm scared of them and don't want them in the house! As far as fertilizer goes, cow manure is good.
