Anyone had a spray tan?

Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/20/08 06:27 PM

I'm going on a short cruise in a few weeks, and my legs are glaring white. I've tried the lotion tans, but they just don't go on evenly no matter how careful I am.

Has anyone tried a spray tan? And what about the airbrush tans? Let me know how you liked it, how long it lasted, was it worth it, what to watch out for, etc.

Thanks!!

I have not tried spray, but have used tanning beds for mid-winter or early spring sunny vacations.

If Dianne doesn't respond to this, you may want to ask her. She's just learned a trememdous amount of information about skin and skin products so she might be helpful.

Dag girl, now where are you going?

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/20/08 09:29 PM

I'm afraid to use the tanning beds; such a quick blast of harmful rays can't be good for you. Do you have tanning beds that are considered safe? I haven't seen any out here.

Anyone with input, lemmeno. I don't want to cause an ocean-going accident because of the glare off my legs!

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/21/08 11:32 AM

Funny. No, they aren't safe. I just decided that the few times I used them wouldn't hurt me.

I don't like the idea of a spray tan becasue I think about what it must do to our pores.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/21/08 12:24 PM

Yeah, I wonder about spraying chemicals/dyes onto my body as well, although I already put chemicals on my head every six weeks when I color my hair.

There's a tanning salon in town with beds (no spray) but I only used it once because it had super bright bulbs and I was burned after only being in there 5 minutes.

Hmmm, what to do...

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/21/08 06:40 PM

A couple of my girlfriends that work as Showgirls here in Vegas, use the spray tans alot. They are mostly made from vegetable oils and are quite safe, few if any chemicals. I don't trust tanning booths as that is all fake and dangerous to the skin. You do burn too easy in them Dolphin, its true. I go out every day for fifteen minutes to feed the birds and let the dogs run and it keeps my a nice healthy color. I have never had a sun burn.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/21/08 07:18 PM

I'm thinking I'll try a spray tan before we go and see how it works and how long it lasts. Then if I like it, I'll get one right before we leave.

Chatty, we still on for dinner in a week?

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/21/08 09:32 PM

Hell YES, Dancing Dolphin!!!
Been watching for the email you said you were sending. A brand spanking new Casino/Hotel is opening up on August 28th. called the Castaways. Its on Boulder Highyway about a mile from where we ate at the Boulder Station when you were all here the last time... Call me and we can decide where to meet! Sending PM with my phone number just in case.

Chatty, I sent you an email - let me know if you get it. I couldn't find any info on that new hotel we talked about. Looking forward to next week!

Dancing Dolphin,

I have used the "Neutrogena" Spray Tan in a can , and it looks really natural on you and then you have the Lancome "Soleil Self tan for the legs . I have never used the spray tan from a Salon. Have a good trip and hope this helps .

Best ,

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/22/08 01:54 AM

Thanks. I called around today to get some ideas, and tomorrow when I get my grey roots touched up I'll ask the girls there if they have any experience with it. Maybe I'll get a test tan before I meet Chatty next week, and she can weigh in on it!

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/22/08 02:02 PM

DD,

I have had spay tans, and I love them.

I have had them done with an individual spraying me - never a machine or booth. I can't imagine that a booth spay tan would turn out even.

I highly reccomend doing this - yes, they spray chemicals on you (and I'm VERY concerned about such things).....BUT, I only do it once or twice a year before a vacation!!

I heard once that "tanned fat looks better the white fat". LOL

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/22/08 02:46 PM

LOL, why do you think I'm doing it? Tanned legs DO look slimmer than white ones!

I spoke to someone at length yesterday about the air brush tanning; that sounds like what you've used. I think I'll go do that next Tuesday and let you all know how it works. It's supposed to last up to 2 weeks, whereas the booth spray tans only last about 5 days.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/22/08 02:48 PM

Kathy, I'm picturing you getting all colored up for this trip to Vegas.

And Danita, I agree. Tanned cellulite is better than white cellulite.

On my Dancing Dolphin, thats because I gave you the wrong name, its not the Castaways its call the Cannery. Excuse me for my brain drain, geesh!!! Anyway its on Boulder highway not too far from the Casino we all ate in when all the ladies were here in Vegas.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 08/31/08 12:12 AM

From what I've read if you get an air brush tan,a good applicator can darken in areas to make you look more tone & muscular..IE illusionary 6pk abs. LOL Form might be a dead give away though.
I use tanning beds that don't emit the burning damaging rays. Premier Tans has those beds. I am think spray tan is the way to go next summer. I really can't see any lamp bed being totally safe. But, driving to the salon isn't safe either... KEy to comfortable bed tanning is to start slow w/ low watt bubls, increase watts & time as your skin darkens. I marshmallow out in winter except for a dab of self tan lotion on face & arms.
A friend of mine in jr high tried soaking in a bath tub of tea. then a kid that went to school with the boys stained something and got the bright idea since she couldn't wash it off to stain herself. LOL The things we do to look amazon.

I live in Daytona Beach, Florida, and work outdoors near the beach. I can't tell you how many fake, uneven, yellow/orange tans we've seen here over the years. We don't know what these people are thinking. Hope it goes well and you look gorgeous.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/03/08 03:36 AM

Thanks Saundra and Q-Ball. I still haven't decided what to do yet and I leave in 3 weeks. Don't think my cellulite will be gone by then, so maybe I'll just use my tanning lotion on my legs. It kills me to spend $25 for a spray tan that lasts 5 days. Still haven't tried it out to see if it works on me or not.

I saw a woman while we were vacationing this summer that appeared to have used tanning lotion, and the backs of her legs were so streaked with dark orange. I wondered if she knew? That's what I'm afraid of!

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/03/08 01:08 PM

K, You might want to try one when you're not going on vacation just to see how your skin reacts. Streaks in hair are okay, not in tans.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/04/08 07:47 PM

dancing, can you take time to sit out in the sun a bit each day?

I just got back from the beach. Want some of my tan? Always more on the front than back. I don't have the nerve to lay flat out on my stomach with folds and bumps all across the back of my legs. That's why you see me walking off the beach backwards.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/04/08 07:49 PM

That's a joke. I'm not that vain. Plus, the friends we were away with all have our own set of body issues...whether they're scars, fat, cellulite, bulges, etc!

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/04/08 09:44 PM

I'll wear a swimsuit, but I always have a wrap around my waist/thighs. Never take it off unless I sit in a lounge (where it's artisically draped over my tummy bulge) or when I get in the pool. (quickly, so no one can see!)

I don't really like to lay out in the sun anymore. I tend to get too hot too easily now, and it's been warm here in California. To lay out before it gets too hot, I'd have to do it around 8:30am, and then the sun is not intense enough to give me a tan, I don't think.

I'm leaning towards trying a spray tan to see if it works on me - maybe tomorrow.... Will let you know.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/05/08 11:13 PM

K, today I learned that people are getting spray tans from machines for $7 in Daytona Beach and they seem to be very good.
Posted by: Dancing Dolphin

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/05/08 11:19 PM

$7 - what a good deal, if it works for you. I went today to get a trial one and paid $25. Rip off! Anyway, it takes 6 hours for the color to show up, and I'm about there now.

It's not nearly as dark as I thought it would be, although I'm a little afraid to go up to the next shade, which is 3 shades darker than what I got today.

I used the protecting lotion on the hands, but my palms are still a little orange. I'll see how it goes over the next few days and decide if I want to do it again for my cruise.

Saundra, I'll just have to come visit you for my next tan!

Hey, you two broads come to Alabama and I'll spray both of you for $20.00 bucks a piece! What a bargain!

What color you want? Red? Yellow? Blue? I have a ton of spray paint....

ahhhhh commmmmme on....lemme do it, k? It'll be fun. Honest.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/06/08 01:57 AM

JJ, a spray tan is done in the nude, so either you would have to get naked too, or I'd make you wear a blindfold.

I think I'd like turquoise - would make my eyes stand out. Or maybe they would just blend in. Hmmm, let me give it some thought. JJ, should I stand in front of your car so we can kill two birds with one stone?

Kathy, my daughter and DIL use this OTC product which works well and is quite popular here. Thought I'd send you the reviews instead of just a link to the product.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/06/08 10:59 AM

I use Yves Roche products that you can order over the net. They are French and use only natural ingredients..whatever that means. They have VERY GOOD tanning products. That give you a natural glow tan and they are moisturizers too. And they have alittle sheen in their lotions so that you do glow. It gives a very good result. And then..when you're on that ship and getting some more tan..the combination of lotion and real tan is wonderful.
I use their tanning products all year round and remember, I live in Sweden. Can´t get much whiter than that! Well, I am not a native Sweden..but I get as much sun as anyone else up here in the North..and that´s not too much.

Have a wonderful trip! grin

I'm as white as a fresh fallen snow... don't do tans of any kind.

Gims, there's nothing wrong w/ being lily white. That's how I like my hubby:)

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/07/08 01:59 PM

White is fine, and that's what I usually am, especially my legs. But I'll be wearing a swimsuite in public, and as someone mentioend before, tan cellulite looks better than white cellulite. So yeah, I do want to tan before I go.

It's two days after my spray tan, and I'm actually pretty pleased. It became about the right shade of tan and seems very even. The only thing that didn't work out are two places at my joints - one wrist and one ankle must have been bent while being sprayed, because there are white/lighter stripes of skin because of the bending. But now I know how to do it right to avoid that for when I get it again right before my cruise.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/07/08 02:03 PM

Hey, why not just pin a note on the back of your girlfriend that says, "I'm a virgin" or something like that and watch everyone's attention go to her....then you don't have to worry bout the "cellulite" stuff...

Whatttt? I'm onlyyyyy trying to help here.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/07/08 04:06 PM

Good idea, JJ! Or another idea - - I could wear a shirt that promotes the new fashion of "Textured Skin" and just show off all the cellulite. Maybe it would be a new trend! Dancer, you're all about trends, can we go au natural and start a trend for textured skin?

Or I could wear pantyhose with my swimsuit; I actually saw someone wearing pantyhose with their swimsuit a long time ago, and it wasn't in a beauty pageant. Weird, huh? Course some might think I'm weird getting a spray tan. Ah well, each to his own.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/07/08 06:00 PM

I stay away from sprays. I once sprayed my hair with athletics foot spray. I will say, however, it held up all day and my scrap didn't itch one bit.

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/23/08 02:41 AM

You gals are a riot!!! I'm still laughing.

I read this thread with interest as I'm also in the same boat. No pun intended. We're going on a cruise next March and I too am white as a sheet. I live in the Pacific Northwest, land of RAIN!

I walk a lot outside so my arms are tanned below my short sleeve shirts. Now isn't that cool with an evening gown on or sleeveless dress or swim sut??? NOT

I would rather go without a tan than go to a tanning booth. Now the spray tan or brush is something I might be interested so will wait for the final results.

How do I get email notificatins of replies? Can anybody tell me?

Re: Anyone had a spray tan? - 09/23/08 02:35 PM

Again, another hilarious thread, I swore blind that I would never, ever do the spray tanning of any description(three older sisters look like an older version of The Three Degrees!)...however, the eve before my Marriage was due to take place..I was having the full works, tan, wax(eybrows) nails, makeup and hair(trial run at the last min!!!)When I went in for my tanning session, I asked if she would just do my legs and my upper torso(missing out my stretch marks),the wee lassie who was ever so sweet, laughed hard and reminded me of my honeymoon night and asked me if I wanted to look like a ciggerette tip!! Now, Kathy, I just enmassed all the courage in the world as I aggreed for the 'full monty'...she handed me a pair of paper knickers(thongs)..left me to undress and returned, in ten mins it was over...and I did not give a toss. When I went to my makeup guy afterwords..he did a we breif overlook to make sure it was ok..and no, I wasn'y 'tangoed'.
The moral of my tale is to tell you all...If I can stand infront of a pretty wee lass in paper knickers..I can bl*&dy well do anything!!!..If you remember my wedding photos...then you will remember I looked a million dollars!!!

Go for it I say..the whole hog done professionally will ahve you feeling a million dollars..or I
