Dancing with the Stars - 03/05/11 09:20 AM

Is anyone or everyone looking forward to te start of the new season? Some mighty interesting participants this time around.

Also the Celebrity Apprentice group looks as if Mr. Trump picked the weirdest people possible! Probably did it for ratings, it seems people enjoy watching train wrecks.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/05/11 06:43 PM

Don't know if I'm going to bother with DWTS this season. I only know about 3 or 4 people.

Never watch Celebrity Apprentice - don't like it. But, I hope you enjoy them Chatty.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/07/11 12:21 AM

Not sure aqbout trhis celebrity Apprentice. It seems like Trump scrapped the bottom of the entertainment barrel this time around and that's what's on this new show. I'm sure he is after ratings and it would seem we humans like watching train wreck people who make us say, OMG!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/07/11 08:01 PM

I agree, but doesn't it make you wonder just why those celebrities would do a show like that? Either they crave attention or something.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/07/11 08:13 PM

I don't regularly watch DWTS, but I enjoy it when I catch it.

As for Trump's new season of "Celebrity Apprentice," my thoughts are these: We all know "The Donald" is a master of self-promotion. And he's been doing a lot of that lately: We even saw him trot out his kids -- all of them -- on Oprah recently.

He has now said that he won't have an announcement on whether or not he is running for US President until the close of this season of Apprentice. So of course, the more FREE PUBLICITY he can generate BEFORE he would make such an announcement, the better for him...

If he SHOULD announce for Prez, of course, the whole "equal air time" ruling comes into play. At least that's how I understand all of this.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/22/11 01:29 AM

Donald trump isn't doing anything any different than ALL the other hopefuls that will be running. Just because he is a well known millionaire why shouldn't he take advantage of all the free air time and promotion he can. I would! So would everyone I know thats smart, and eager to win something... Lets face it the Presidency game is playing for all the marbels. Just my opinion...

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/22/11 10:15 PM

Of course not, Chatty! He's being smart. As we would expect him to be.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/23/11 01:26 AM

Well ladies we can nhold our heads up high because actress and aften teased fatty Kirstie Alley was amazing on DWTS, She came in secone only to an athlete, young and strong and she also got an 8... She may be a bit overweight and 60 years old but she looked beautiful and danced with such grace. We seniors rule!!!
If you watch, vote for Kirstie who is there working her butt off for all us senior women.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/23/11 10:47 PM

loved Kirstie Alley on the show. Ralph Macchio did great too.
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/28/11 10:55 PM

I believe Ralph Macchio is a natural dancer and might just win. Kirstie is older and heavier so it's harder for her I'm sure and yet she danced all around those younger babes on the show. Please support her if she continues to do a good job. We Seniors deserve to stand up and be counted as still able to cut the mustard. GO KIRSTIE!!!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/29/11 10:46 AM

The judges slammed Ralph's dance last night, but I really enjoyed it!

We can't vote from here in Canada. I'd be voting for Kirstie too!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/29/11 01:37 PM

I watched the 1st hour and taped the 2nd. I'll watch that this
afternoon, hopefully. I totally love this show. It lifts the
spirit. And I guess 23 million others must agree!
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/30/11 01:06 AM

Kirstie had a bit of a problem with stamina as well. That's some amount of quick dancing for her but she did okay. Sometimes I think the judges aren't fair enough. Give these poor dancers a break, thewy are amatures after all.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/30/11 05:41 PM

Chatty,
I'm with you when it comes to judging this competition. What these couples do is more than mere dancing. They almost need
stunt doubles to do some of this stuff. But I think Carrie Ann,
Len, and Bruno are critiquing to the extreme, probably to boost ratings. IMO!!!
Posted by: Eagle Heart

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/30/11 08:14 PM

I agree, I think the judges are way too harsh, esp at the very beginning!! Sometimes it's enough to make me not even want to watch anymore...they way they treated Michael Bolton last season was (IMO) sickening and changed my opinion of (and respect for) these judges forever. Constructive criticism is one thing, but tearing a person down the way they sometimes do is uncalled for.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 03/31/11 01:18 PM

Perhaps they're copying Simon from American Idol. He cut people
up and left 'em in little pieces. Some of those contestants never should've been allowed to humiliate themselves in the first
place. But it boosts the ratings. And making money is what it's all about.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/09/11 12:40 AM

It appears Ralph Maggio is slipping lower and dancing not as good BUT have you noticed the ex football player Hines? He is fantastic and I believe a real contender.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/12/11 01:23 PM

I totally enjoyed last night's show. Love classical music; it's wonderful to listen to. The violinist and soprano are nice-looking people; and their talent is beyond any adjective one might use to describe them! WOW! And how I love watching those waltzes!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/14/11 01:18 PM

Sugar Ray is a nice guy but he was less than graceful, when it came to dancing. Of course, what can one expect from a boxer?
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/15/11 02:21 AM

NO matter how good anyone is on the show if they aren't popular and have a strong fan base following that votes, they'll go home early. The viewers can keep or delete you.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/15/11 01:42 PM

I know Chatty. It is a fun show. I love it! There's something
soothing about watching couples dance!!! And listening to music is healing to the soul! IMO...

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/20/11 04:57 PM

Good Grief! I cannot believe Kendra wasn't voted off! crazy She always has some lame excuse for not dancing well. I don't want to hear her foul mouth or her PMS whoa's.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/20/11 06:54 PM

I know what you mean, Cookie! Petra Nemcova is a doll and I really enjoyed watching her.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/26/11 01:46 PM

Whoopla! Hey Cookie! What did you think of last night's show?
Yazou!!!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/27/11 12:04 AM

I believe Kendra, who I trhink is cute normally, thought all she'd have to do is shake her bazooms and she'd win... Well, she was wrong and pays the price every week with less than
complimentary remarks from the judges. I am still voting for Kirstie who improves weekly even with Max falling on her, her shoe coming off and still she keeps going and she is 60 too remember.. I do believe however Hines is going to win, what a nice man, good dancer, and all around sweet guy.
Posted by: jabber

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/27/11 01:07 PM

I love Kirstie. And that Max is a hunk. I love the energy this
show displays. It's just plain fun to watch!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/27/11 09:10 PM

I was disappointed that Kendra didn’t get vote off. shocked All of her dance moves look alike. She is trying to be too sexy with her dancing, when she should be more sultry or seductive. There is a difference. She looked like a stripper when she was dancing on top of the judge’s desk. She certainly was in her element then. She is a pretty girl, but she doesn’t have much of a personality.

I hated to see Chris go last night, but he had not done as well the past two shows. He has a wonderful personality, and he was a gracious loser last night. I think Romeo is a charmer and a good dancer. wink Sweet young man. Chelsea and Mark are really the best I think, although Hines and Kym are pretty darn good! I do like Kirsti and Maks. They have fun chemistry. Ralph and Katrina are not bad but I don’t think they have the fan base as some of the others. Soooo, that's my dancing review. laugh

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/28/11 01:38 AM

You're right Cookie and fan base is everything towards the end no matter how good a dancer you might be. Like me, I use my home and cell phone for double votes and always vote Kirstie. She deserves to be there as hard as it is for someone 60, a bit heavy and still fight the fight to keep up with those young people. It's about time a talented serior gets the prize...

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 04/29/11 01:30 PM

Cookie, Chatty, and all,
I like Kirstie too and her spunk is a joy to watch. Those dances
these contestants do look really difficult to accomplish. I give
anyone credit who is willing to give it a go.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/03/11 11:21 PM

I just can't see Kirstie as a senior! She's too vibrant. Not that other seniors aren't...you get my drift. I love her.
Posted by: Cookie

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/04/11 01:22 PM

Maks really seems to enjoy having Kirsty as his partner this season. In the past shows, he has usually been grumpy and didn't smile much. He is grining all the time. I think Maks and Kirsti are just having fun! She does look good at 60.

But I think all of us boomers are aging very well! grin

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/04/11 01:28 PM

I admire Kirsty so much! I admire her courage and perseverence! There's no way I could get my hips and knees to move like that without ending up in the hospital, LOL! She and Maks do look like they're having fun, I think it's the first season that I've seen Maks looking even remotely happy.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/04/11 01:41 PM

And dancing in HEELS too! Good grief, I can stumble walking a straight line in sneakers! laugh

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/04/11 02:49 PM

LOL! My feet hurt just to look at those heels!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/04/11 08:13 PM

I have voted on both my home and cell phone for KIRSTIE and Max every week. I adore her stamina and guts for even trying to do this. It has to be unmanigably hard for everyone but especially a Senior. I doubt she will win unless we all vote for her, and I think she deserves to win just ecause, LOL!!! But I also think Hines is in te lead so far. I am enjoying the show more this time around.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/10/11 01:58 AM

I* wonder who gets the axe tonight???
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/22/11 11:59 PM

Well Tuesday we will know who is this years champion dancer. I still hope Kirstie wins just because she had to work so much harder and is still hanging on. Three dances have to be done on Monday night, wow, that has to be a rough one for these three contestants. I bet they will be glad when it's finally over...
Posted by: jabber

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/25/11 06:05 PM

Okay, so Hines Ward won! Kym and Kirstie won too!!! Just getting to the finals on that show, is winning! Those dances are hard
work! I hate it when this show ends. I look forward to watching
this goofiness. Love the judges. Love the dancing. What's wrong with me???
Posted by: Anne HolmesAdministrator

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/25/11 06:57 PM

I agree it is too bad Kirstie didn't take top honors, but she sure looked good, and I was amazed when they mentioned on the Today show that she'd lost so much weight during the contest that the costumers had to keep altering her costumes...

Says a lot for the value of dance as a workout regimen, doesn't it?
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/25/11 09:39 PM

Kirstie made all seniors proud with her constant good performances and although she didn't win, second place is no dishonor in such a difficult contest. And she looks magnificiant!

Yes, ma'am! Sure does.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/27/11 06:39 PM

I took a lot of dance classes in high school, loved them. Ballroom dance, modern dance, interpretive dance... That and ice skating were what I chose as my phys ed electives.

I loved them all. To me they were so much more fun than traditional gym classes or softball, etc.

And I was so limber then. I especially recall that I could get up off the floor without using my hands. Sure wish I could do that now.

I need to start some classes that will get me more exercise than I get sitting at my desk. (LOL)

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/28/11 02:06 PM

I can't dance worth a hoot. But I love all types of music, except RAP, not much for that. And I love watching folks dance!
I'll bet you're a good dancer, Anne. A few years ago, WB and I
tried line-dancing. But he's worse than I am at dancing. So that went nowhere!!! LOL...

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/28/11 08:57 PM

Jabber, since Steve wears full-length leg braces, he's not much of a dancer, either. He gamely danced with me once at our wedding, but we haven't danced since then.

There are so many things he does well, I make a point not to ask him to do things that are too much of a physical challenge. However, we both DO need to find some sort of physical activity we can do for our health.

I'm not too fond of treadmills, and I bet it's been 20 years since I rode my bike. Guess I either need to join the gym again and force myself to drive there at least 3 times a week - or I need to buy some exercise tapes and start working out in my family room here at home.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/29/11 11:09 PM

I workout in front of the TV 5 days a week while watching Good Morning America. I have to do exercises the first thing, before anything else, including breakfast, or I can't do 'em. I lift weights, do sit-ups, and 200 crossovers per day. Stuff like that. Plus I walk a minimum of a mile and half a day. I'll bet if you get some exercise ideas off the net, you can work-up your own routine.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 05/31/11 03:36 PM

I work out at home as well. I used to go to an early-morning class but had to change my routine after I tore my achilles tendon (not from exercising; it was a bad fall in the mud). My elder daughter is a whiz at this stuff and is very dedicated, so I mentally dragged myself into much the same stuff.

Once you get used to it and get a small library of exercise dvds that you like, you're good to go. No getting dressed in anything coordinated, no having to get somewhere in the weather, etc.

Most of my stuff is Billy Blanks and The Firm, but I have some Michelle Dozois, Amy Bento, and even a kettlebell workout. That last one is super hard and only for my best days. I have 2-lb weights, 5-lb weights, and a 10-lb kettlebell. That's all the equipment I think I need.

If you're looking around for stuff, I can recommend the Collage Video website. They have thousands of dvds and you can search by type, plus see a brief video of each so you can decide if you might like it. They have beginner to advanced levels, even routines for people in chairs, so all levels are covered.

Oh, there are also a lot of 10-minute-type exercises that allow you to do 1-5 routines that are 10 minutes each. Once I got used to working out at home, I really got to like it, so good luck!

Well, tonight is the last "Dancing with the Stars" show of this season. Who do you predict will be the winners?
Posted by: jabber

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 11/22/11 09:02 PM

It looks as if JR will win. But they're all good. The routines they do are so incredible it's mind-blowing. Actually they should give all three couples that get to the finals, a mirror ball trophy. This is dancing to the extreme! IMHO!!!

Re: Dancing with the Stars - 11/23/11 02:43 PM

I love it when this show is on TV. I miss it when it isn't.
Perhaps it's such fun to watch, because it gets your mind off world troubles for a little while! IMHO it's very entertaining!
