Old friends revisited...

Old friends revisited... - 07/07/11 09:18 PM

It seems that more and more of my old friends are calling or writing wanting to get back together again. They are feeling their age creeping up on them and want to connect with friends of their youth. I too think about many old friends and have been able to reunite with some of them. With age also comes memories, and a need to meet again and remember our youth together.

I know what you mean, Chatty.

Though I haven't attended any of them, our high school reunion planners have started putting on casual, annual get-togethers -- usually something like a day of golf and an opportunity to buy your own dinner afterwards at a local watering hole.

The photos they upload to Facebook afterward give he impression that everyone is having a lot of fun!

I think that it's hard to keep up with all our friends and family as we start careers and families of our own; so many friends seem to drop by the wayside. I am happy that we have the technology we have today to make it easier to get back in touch. I have reconnected with some high school friends - class of '66 - as well as college friends - class of '93. It's fun seeing what everyone has been doing since graduation!

As the chapters of our life change, the list of our friends
change, IMHO. Some peers I knew in my youth, I hardly
recognize these days. I even have adoptive cousins who are almost unrecognizable. Time changes everything. The last class
reunion I attended a couple decades back, the people who were once on the high school honor roll, were not doing well; and the kids at the bottom of the so-called high school class, owned their own business and were a huge success. Go figure!

The last time I went to a high school reunion was over 30 yrs. ago.

I live 3,500 kms. away from where I went to high school, then university.

Honest I don't have much interest in reunions. BAsed on what I hear from a good friend, I don't think I would have much in common to talk about present stuff. Talking about good old days ...back that long ago is a very short-lived exercise. (My teenage years weren't totally care-free nor golden.)

There was a major HS reunion about 8 yrs. ago but I wasn't going to spend money to fly 4,000 kms. I keep in touch with only 1 friend HS. That's good enough for me.

University...I have 2 close friends which again is good enough for me. I feel blessed with their friendship because part of it is also related to supporting each other as we each moved through our careers.
