Picture Scavenger Hunt

Picture Scavenger Hunt - 12/22/10 06:47 PM

My two grandchildren cannot read yet but I want them to go on a Scavenger Hunt for kitchen aprons I had made for them. We bake a lot together and I thought it would be cute for them to have their own aprons.
I thought I'd have a package under the tree that they could unwrap together with a drawing of where they begin their hunt...say the refrigerator with an X on the lower freezer door. Inside the freezer they'd find another drawing of where to look next and so on and so on...has anyone ever used this idea before? I'm hoping for our 4 and 3 year olds they will find it easy and fun to find their apron presents.
Is anyone else doing anything like this for their grandkids?

That’s an adorable idea, Dee. You’ll see they will run helter skelter, and find those aprons before you can say Merry Christmas.

I bought my granddaughter an adorable doll. I’ll take pictures of it on Christmas Eve. Of course I didn’t have any doll clothes for her particular size, so I have been bidding at Ebay for the past 6 weeks. I got the most precious clothes, all dirt cheap. I just couldn’t stop lol lol…and have accumulated a suitcase full. Then I bought cute little boxes, in which I sorted out the clothes. One box for the shoes, another for pants, another dresses, etc. The suitcase was an old metal case for my husband’s tools. It was just the right size. I washed it down, and decorated the whole case with sparkly glitter, butterflies flowers and such. It looks like a million dollars. grin

I also purchased for my grandsons something really cool over ebay. It’s a covered wagon. Big enough for two - three children to sit in . Another child can play horsey, for it has a harness and all. I sewed little bells along the harness, the cover is red, and we glued the inside of the wagon with shiny plastic red contact covers. It’s so unique. Hubby burnt the boys names on the sides of the wagon. Guess who will be playing horsey for them. Opa is practicing his whinny.

I just hope and pray everything will be harmonious by us. My son’s soon to be X will be there and she is bringing her mother too. Should be interesting, because they are going through a mud throwing divorce and don’t even talk to each other. I’ll be serving a lot of rum punch….maybe they’ll all fall asleep. …I hope. wink grin

Yes, yes, Dee, fantastic idea! I did that kind of thing for my kids and their cousins a few times. They really love it, and years down the road they remember the scavenger hunt but not the present at the end.

Making memories, that's what it's all about...

Merry Christmas everyone!

Dee,
That's why WB and I go geocaching. It's the same idea, except it
is an International scavenger hunt for grownups with a GPS. I
think it's a cute thing to do with your grandbabies! Love it!

Edelweiss...I can't wait to see pictures of your granddaughter's doll, the clothes and the suitcase and boxes...what a novel idea...she's such a lucky little girl.
We still have not had Christmas with our grandchildren yet...they've all been sick and now Larry's not doing so hot...may not be until next year before we have them over. I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and the best of New Year to you all.

Same to you and your family Dee. It's sad when one is sick on the holidays. My grandson whose 27th. birthday is today has had the flu since Christmas Eve, poor guy. He missed it all but when he is well we are taking him out to dinner.

Wow, you all are so creative. I love hearing what you are doing with your grands.

Well Edelweiss, how was your Christmas?

Dee, ahve you celebrated yet? Seems that whatever is going around Baltimore is lasting a long time. A friend and one of my sisters were sick for over a week. Of course they continued to work, shop, cook, bake, wrap, etc. What's a woman to do?

Jabber...you're the sweetest lady...I am feeling better...I think one more week of this cold virus and I should be fit as a fiddle...albeit an old fiddle...LOL.
We still have not had Christmas with the kids yet but, as someone on my FB mentioned, we might do a Valentine's Christmas...we'll see. Love you.

A friend of mine had her Christmas in July one year, because her whole family was ill in December. She even put up a Christmas Tree and decorations for that celebration. I think a Valentine's Christmas sounds fine. Glad you are better. Glad "the hunk" thinks you are an angel! I'll bet he's right!
