What to say in a step-mom's card - 05/06/08 03:44 AM

Each year I always struggle with what to say. We make our cards and looking for stepmom poems etc online does not cut it.

She's not been warm/fuzzy. Just a nice lady and always welcomes us "home"....she and Dad have had some difficulties thru the years.

Any advice ladies???

I am a step mom and have a step dad. It can be a struggle. I have found nice cards at many stores that are either funny or just generic and affectionate without being too decisive. Some years are better than others, so when you find them, buy them up. I have given and received cards like all of the above. I think its hard to give a card to anyone when the relationship is "iffy". When my ex husband and I were still married that was the worst. I best the card companies sell alot of "generic" spouse cards...

Your situation is the same as mine, except I must buy for a MIL that isn't warm and fuzzy but my hubby loves her. I don't like the sappy stuff but don't want to be too cold, either. Some things in life are just d-i-f-f-i-c-u-l-t!!!

How about just sending her a pretty bar of your soap, with a hand written note: "thinking of you."

Yes, I've done that many times. I'm sure she is tired of that.WE just want to send cards this time.

Why not just say what you said..."Thanks for always welcoming us home!"

Great idea JJ, that sounds nice, friendly yet not sappy...Or send flowers Di, for the season, that makes a different gift every time, also candy or fruit baskets, does she collect anything, like salt & pepper shakers? My mom collects clown statues. There are a jillion ideas for a nice thank you...

So Di, what did you eventually decide to do? Just curious.

Sent her a card...then sent her some custom soap. It's so hard at her age...79. She called and asked for the soap and wanted to pay for it....but I just sent it gratis.
