I attended a lovely funeral service today and one of the gals who spoke was the step-daughter of the gentleman who died.

My gracious, we should all be so lucky to have someone say the kind things about birth parents that she said about her step-father. Her sentiments were beautiful and from the heart. It was a blessing to hear how healthy some step families are.

I believe that's rare. There's a formula. It's produced by a mutual respect of the step parent and the step child. It's nurtured and allowed to 'be' by the natural parents. It's guarded by God through our prayers. It cannot happen if the natural family interferes with their own jealousy, envy, and fear; fear that the child will love the step parent more.

Sammie, your'e right. You hit the nail on the head with those emotions.

The good thing about this situation was the gal who spoke is now a stepmother and knows how to do it with love because of her relationship with her stepdad. Pretty cool, huh?
