Where I am now.

It's a 5-minute drive to a hospital, I can walk to my Church, the supermarkets are'nt too far off, and there are other amenities which are practically at my doorstep. I would love to be in the country but, one might need to drive to go from points A to B. That's the only hassle.

The city is noisy but, I suffer from tinnitus and I'd probably be hard of hearing by the time I retire (whenever that may be) so, I suppose that's one disadvantage of living in the city that I could sweep under the rug.

I'm gonna live with Chatty, if the guest should get booted, and if not, just nearby, cause it sounds like she lives in a desert paradise what with all the community activities and riding around in golf carts with pets

You are certainly welcome here with me. I have (or soon will have) more than enough room for me plus two or three more ladies.
Besides many of the mobile homes in here go for really cheap because the owner dies and there are no heirs so it is sold really inexpensively. The resort in itself is fantastic, so many amenities and activities inside and out of the resort and I am about ten minutes from anything and everything.

Edelwiess, great article. Loved the questions.

We always talk about living near the water, but I honestly think we'll never do it. Where we live now is so conveninet to everything (except the beach). I know we won't do anything while our fathers are alive because we visit them so often and want to be with them. Plus, family and friends are so important to us. I can't imagine moving and leaving everyone behind.

chatty, how long have you been there and what took you to Vegas, if you don't mind me asking.

Edelweiss, from Germany to.. - 12/30/09 04:11 AM

Edelweiss, my dearie received an email recently from a cousin and her hubby this week. They had visited us over a yr. ago and drove around the Canadian Rockies.

The email which he carefully read in German, indicated that they want to move to live in Vancouver area! I think this is some sort of long term plan..to may be retire here. laugh Apparently they found our area beautiful enough to want to eventually live in our area. Personally, I find that abit strange..why would people want to leave Germany. It is not cheap to find housing in Vancouver. But then, maybe Germany is expensive. According to dearie he thinks it is.

These are German natives. They've never lived anywhere else. She is fluent in German and English but he barely understands any English. They are outdoors/fitness oriented people. No children. They have working class salaries. confused

She is in her early 50's, he is in his late 50's. He took up snowboarding in his early 40's.

Orchid, I think the way the US dollar and or Canadian dollar stand to the Euro right now can be profitable for Europeans. They get almost twice the value. That may be a reason why your partner’s cousin and husband want to move.

I mentioned once before that I used to sell real-estate in Spain to Germans. I noticed that almost all senior buyers left their home country because they were trying to leave disappointments behind. Many had estranged adult children, or dysfunctional families.

Whatever the reason, it takes a lot of guts to take up and leave and move to a country where you don’t even know the language. I sure wouldn’t do it.

Dots, I originally came to Vegas in 1970 and did a show at The Sands Casino for six weeks. I fell in love with the climate probably because I was here between March and May. Hadn't reached the deserts sweltering heat yet. I moved back here in 1980, this time a widow again. I again left to take a job in D.C. from 1982 until 1985, been here steady ever since 1985.

Tell us about the show you did in the 70s. How cool is that?

My sister and her family got home last night. They came to your town the day after Christmas. Only one of the five won anything. The others all lost. Go figure. Sounds pretty typical. Dancing Dolphin is the onlybperson I've ever seen win! I remember beign there whwen she won. It was so exciting. Buzzers and bells, people staring, money pouring, boomers descending. What fun.

It was a blast watching her win and seeing the boomers faces, like little kids in a candy store. Loved it, can't wait until we can do it again.

I did a show with Chubby Checkers and his band. Sammie Davis Jr. was in the house one night and he came up on stage and sang some songs. We had guests almost every night, like Robert Goulett, a much younger Wayne Newton, the Pointer Sisters, the McGuire Sisters Phyllis Diller, Dean Martin (he was soooo handsome) and so many more. I did several duets with Fats Domino. I will never forget those magical days, the fun and excitement was amazing.

I'd live in a barn, like Mustang! Right now, I take it one day
at a time. This past year has been difficult and I'm trying to
regroup and re energize. I'd love Vegas, where it's warm. Value of a dollar plunged so bad, it's scary.

You can live here pretty cheap. Food in the Casinos is soooo cheap. Great meals and buffets can feed you for weeks. They have cheap breakfasts everywhere, like 2 eggs, toast, pancakes, bacon, ham or sausage, toast if wanted all for under $2.50. Some places have all you can eat pancakes and coffee for $.99...

Rents are about the same as anywhere else but ytou can NOW buy a home really cheap or a mobile home in a full amenities park. I guess someone would have to check around with say someone living where they want to move to, or the Chamber of Commerce who is always happy to supply info.
