Nordic Walking - 09/01/06 07:25 AM

Anyone do nordic walking? Yesterday I saw a programm on TV about it. They claim it reduces the flab under the upper arm.
If that's true...then there's no holding me back!

Thanks for the link Flipperjo. Does sound good, especially the part about burning more calories.
I used to loose weight when I played golf, but apparently my body has gotten accustomed to it, so now I need something more vigorous.
I suppose it is like brisk walking,JJ, only I think you establish more of a rhythm because of the walking sticks. I'm just guessing, haven't done it yet.

I have a nordic track that I have had for several years. It is a great place to hang clothes ...actually it will give you a great workout ...I just don't use it very often ...except for the clothes!

Yee gads, I have owned walking sticks for over two yeas now and never knew I was actually Nordic walking. I had read that cross country skiing is one of the best ways to burn calories, so I bought the sticks they recommended to mimic skiing....imagine my surprise.

I know many ladies love it here. They even have Nordic walking clubs. Sometimes early in the morning, you can hear them marching by, swinging those poles and chatting and squaking like a barn full of chickens. It sounds like they have a great time. When I come back from our vacation, I think I'll look into it and ruffle my feathers with them.

I think it comes from having written for health magazines and being on all the mailing lists, I read alot and I hear about everything. The sticks are really cool.

what about walking and running alittle in between? i am being coached and inspired by the people at the runner´s world forum..and it´s great..for me, i know..doesn´t have to be your thing ..i am a slow walker no matter how i try to get faster..so the running is almost a necessity..and to good music on my mp3..it really is ok..most days..

anybody else do something like this? if so, how is it going for you???

i don´t like nordic walking and i live in sweden..it´s when u you use special poles to walk with and that way you excercise the top of your body too. my swedish friend, who loves it, says you have to do it right or it won´t feel right. so when you decide to ruffle your feathers a bit, be sure to get some good advice as to how to use those poles. they aren´t supposed to trail behind you, so to speak.

Good luck! I am having some tough times at the moment. But your mail got me inspired to get out and do my walking/running thing. I am sitting here in my running clothes. But now I am really going to get off butt (pretty big one, too) and DO IT. (i asked for some help in another forum and that kind of lightened my burden, I think)

And GOOD LUCK TO YOU AGAIN!!!! at whatever you do!!!
