Every year the Humane Society and other Animal welfare groups ask people to take an animal home for the holidays. This year there was a huge number of people who did just trhat. Most were returned after the holiday but at least didn't spend it alone in some cage. And when we got the figures at this months meeting it showed at least a dozen or more dogs, and cats found permanent homes by those giving them a home for the holidays.
