Does anyone have a self defrosting freezer? Does it work well?

I've had self-defrosting freezers all of my adult life. Though I did get to defrost my mother's freezer many a time as a young girl.

I would say they are well worth the extra energy that is likely expended to make the freezer self-defrosting, frost-free, whatever they call them...

My deep freezer is a do-it-yourself defrost. I like a defrost freezer because it prevents freezer burn. We butcher a beef every year and I don't want it all dried out. I only defrost it once a year right before we get the beef. It's not hard to do.

However, my regular refrig-freezer is frost-free.

I was wondering about deep freezers because I don't have one, so thanks for the info. We just don't need all that freezer space but it's good to know.

I don't think I have seen a refrigerator freezer that isn't frost-free in about 30 years. I doubt they even make them anymore.

Also, self defrosting (do-it-yourself) freezers are waaaay cheaper than frost free!! smile
