Princess Munchkin (aka Munchie) will be giving birth in about 3 weeks or so. This is a planned pregnancy as she and Farmer have been officially "married". They are Australian Shepherds.

Any tips you'f like to share about a pregnant doggie??

Isn't she darling? She is adorned with her "nursing bras". DH could not get this out of his (distorted) mind until he took a pic of our beautiful Princess Munchie! LOL! About 9 days to go!

My best advice is to of course, have her checked out regularily by a vet, plus have a warm, cozy and "quiet" place for the birthing with NO,NO,NO visitors present. Just you and or your husband, and most of all "REMAIN CALM," she will get her confidence from you, especially if she is a first time momma...Gods Bless her and her babies.

Okay, I think I can be of help. We currently have four cocker spaniels, three of which were born right here in what we now call "the nursery."

We bred two of our females and had two litters.

Our regular vet sent us to a gyn vet, who monitored the mothers-to-be. We were given lessons on CPR for non-breathing puppies and videos on the birthing process.

We thought we could just bring our mom's in when their temperatures dropped to 95, which indicates the beginning of labor.

But, we were told that home deliveries are highly recommended. So, we prepared for the births.

cont. cause I'll time out

For Krissy's delivery, we borrowed a birthing crate from a breeder. They have warming tables built in. (You have to keep the temp of the crate at 85 degrees for the first 24 hours.)

Will have to continue went i get home - time to do the afternoon shift at the Y before and after care.
