A Gambel’s quail is a curious sight
With red in his coat that catches the light
And a soldier’s cockade on top of his head.

The sound they make is curious too;
It sounds like an underwater cuckoo
When they call to each other all day.

A family just ran so very fast-
Mom and dad were a blur as they passed
With babies running hard to keep up-

Through my yard as I watched
From my window.

Thanks Jabber...

I just love those little quails too Yonuh, we have them here in droves, making those little sounds and running all around the park. The babies are the cutest little things. Now since I've seen them alive and happy I can't even think of eating quail in one of our finer restaurants.

We have a hummingbird nest in the Palo Verde tree in our front yard. I'm amazed at the amount of wildlife we have in our yard. We live in town on a busy street yet have a rabbit living in our yard, doves nesting in the carport, lizards and geckos galore, finches, sparrows, cardinals, woodpeckers, cactus wrens, quail, etc. and now the hummingbird nesting.

It is, Chatty. I'm really surprised about the hummingbird, though. We have gradually changed our landscape to native plants and trees; it seems to be working! smile All of our trees are 'volunteers' that sprouted somewhere in the yard and have been transplanted to where we wanted them. At last count we had 20 good-sized trees on our property.

yonuh,
I love your poems, too. I've been working on rewriting a
manuscript, and does it ever consume the time. Oh my gosh, I've got so much housework to do and shopping, etc. But I wanted to
say I how much I love your poems. Prayers and blessings,

They say, now Charleen have patience wait your turn,
but since I never have had any, how do I now learn?

There is a poor tiny puppy sitting in a cage,
but many errors and stupidity have heightened my rage.

Has anyone else noticed that service is a fleeting care,
no one gives a d-a-m anymore it seems, our patience they dare.

Well if no word comes today I will tomorrow show my face,
and if no one pays attention the police may be called to the place.

All I want is to adopt this sweet baby dog, giving her love & a place to call her own,
but if this keeps up by the time the red tape is finished, she'll be completely grown.

Please cross your fingers, your eyes, yes, even your toes,
and if I can find one, I'm asking a witch to wiggle her nose.

Just got a call from the place and the puppy is mine to love,
guess the squeeky wheel does get the oil, so sometimes its good to shove.

I'll pick her up tomorrow and bring her to her new Castle,
she will definitely be the Queen, that goes without any hassle.

Bureaucracy and red tape is in all walks of our life,
But when too much is too much, it becomes a weary strife.

Of all people in this world, the shelter should have known,
That no doggy could ever wish for a better loving home.

So glad the waiting is over, and tomorrow is the day,
Where your new little companion will dwell, love and play.

Wishing you laughter and the warmth a pet can bring,
Wishing you happiness, and merry woof-woof songs to sing.
