Locally there are many people who are eating a diet from only our area..(The Fife Diet)it seems to be a kind of "Hippy" thing. then on deeper investigation it seems a valuable thing to strive for,
I live in a rural area bordered by shore..we eat locally grown veg all the time..buy fish from our fishing villages ..know that honey from bees that thrive on the flowers/grasses from our fields is best for us.
we have got to 2010..thanks mainly to those ancestors who lived to child rearing age..of course I love pineapple..nuts and foods from lands far away..but if I HAD to I could survive on what my area provides..I feel spoiled for choice..and see the deep meaning of life is caring loving and surviving so that humanity survivE.
maybe its time to strive to be happy with less..we will still have more than many on the planet who due to their circumstances cannot read nor write here.

Think globally, eat locally sounds like a good logo! We have
lots of Farmers' Markets, when the weather permits. Our folks
love homegrown foods, too. However there are fewer farmers now
then way back when farming equipment was cheaper.

I exercised, ate right and still couldn't lose weight once I hit 40. That is how I got into my current business, the weight management products really helped and I lost 30 pounds and have kept it off. But we also promote a healthey lifestyle.
I think regular exercise, a healthy diet and plenty of hydration and rest are essential. Try products, but don't replace healthy common-sense habits with them altogether.

Well, Mountain Ash, it's the 100-mile diet (in Canada it's the 100 kms. diet). Buying local within 100 mile radius of home. Idea which became a book written by a couple here in Vancouver. They also did a tv series on several families who tried the 100 mile diet.

Could I eat entirely local my whole life here? We don't grow alot of wheat/grain in our area because it's more wet and we don't get hot summers like the Canadian prairies. So I would miss pasta. Of course I would need rice but past few years I have cut back on rice by 75%. Very gradual. I just get sugar crashes when I eat too much white rice now.

We are lucky to live near seafood sources, fruits which our part of British Columbia is known by rest of Canada.

We wouldn't needed olives where we live, for salt flavouring, iodine. We have several different types of natural seaweed that are edible and sea asparagus..that grows by shoreline. Salty. I actually made homemade focaccia with sea asparagus and rosemary. It works and it's tasty.

About 400 kms. inland in province is Canada's driest and hottest part. Now they are growing ginseng and ginger. Hey, why not, if it's gives farmers cash.

All this talk about local, makes me look forward to summer again to local food bounty. smile

Can't wait for the Farmer's Market either. I don't eat enough fruit this time of year.

I go for the frozen fruits in winter time. Theyt are flash frozen when fresh and taste amazing.

Orchid why not eat brown or basmati rice, they has much less sugar.

I do eat certain types of brown rice, but some varieties cause same reaction. Basmati rice doesn't help the situation much.

Wild rice of course is quite different and is ok. But too expensive for me to have it often. It's not even from the rice family.
