I spent several hours at the emergency vet Friday night with Spud. He was having signs of abdominal pain and couldn't p. They did x-rays and blood work; found several small objects in his colon and said his stomach was distended and gassy, and the blood work was fine. Took him home with a bunch of meds. Went to his regular vet yesterday; more tests showed he had blood in his urine, but no crystals. Brought him home with more meds. I have to just watch him and take him back to the ER if he gets worse or develops new symptoms. Poor little guy is just not himself. He's eating his regular food and drinking water but won't take any treats. All he wants to do is curl up next to me. My vet wasn't sure what started this; the intestinal or the urinary tract. I'm worried about him. I hate that we don't know what's wrong. My vet is really good, so for now we're just treating symptoms.

yonuh,
I know others here will join me in praying for Spud! Hopefully the meds will do the trick! Be looking forward to hearing you
say, "He's okay!"

Yonuh, how is Supd doing today? Is he an older dog, or was he healthy before this issue? I'll be thinking of you!

Thanks, Dolphin. He's a little better today, but not himself. He was 3 on Friday and has been healthy for the 2 years we've had him. He was a rescue, so we don't know his history before we adopted him.

Spud seems to be definitely on the mend but not 100% well yet. I have to go pick up some pureed pumpkin today (do you know how hard it is to find this time of year?)? Fortunately, my Food Co-op ordered some for me and it will be in today. It seems pumpkin helps the GI tract in dogs. Who knew? I did some research and it can be used for both diarrhea and constipation. It seems to be a colon tonic. So I will have to see whether or not he'll eat it. From what I read, some dogs don't like it so it must be disguised in something else.

My prayers are being said for you and Spud. I know how awful it can be when one of our angels is ill and looking to us for their comfort. He has youth on his side and lets hope he didn't eat something thats causing his problems.

Thanks, Chatty. He seems to be better tonight, but something still isn't quite right. I will talk to the vet again tomorrow and see what she says.

I'll join the list praying and worrying over Spud. I hope you find out what's going on with him. Do keep us informed.

He seems to be better today. I brought him to work with me yesterday, which he didn't like at all. frown I'm cautiously optimistic that he's all better. He will go back to the Vet for more tests after he's finished his medication.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and for thinking of us. smile

Spud is in good hands. You and the Vet. I'm sending healing thoughts his way, God love him!

How long before he finishes?

He has a few more days on the medications. So my question is, why does stuff like this happen first on a Holiday weekend, and second when my partner isn't here?

Ain't it so? Murphy's Law...and all that. Well, let us know. Glad to hear he is improving.

I got a note from a woman when my Reeta & Rosee died, whose pet passed away while she was out of town. How terrible that must have been for her not to have been there. Like JJ said, Murphys Law which sucks in my personal opinion.

Oh that poor woman, Chatty. Sometimes you have to wonder if it was meant to be that way. Like they saved her from suffering in the moment. Who knows...but I feel for her.

How's the baby today, yonuh?

Right U R Chatty. Holidays and weekends seems 2 B when everything
that can go wrong, does. And R vet charges $100.00 just to
walk in the door on Saturday and Sunday. I got sick on vacation
and had 2 go 2, 1 of those independent Health Care Centers.
And I never go anywhere near those places while home. Murphy's
Law does suck! IMO!

I feel bad for the woman whose dog died while she was gone. Our Aussie, who was my partner's dog before I met him, died while my partner was out of town. I felt so guilty that I had missed the signs of something being wrong. But in the end, what he had was an agressive cancer and there was no treatment, so even if I had seen the signs, he would have died anyway.

And Spud is back to his usual lovable, obnoxious self. More tests after he finishes his antibiotic next week, so I'm hoping everything will show negative.

Now that is good news about the Spudster! YEAH! Thanks for keeping us up to date on his progress. I tell ya, we worry ourselves sick over our children, moms/dads, and our beloved pets!

Let's hear it for the vet!
