That makes sense, Yonuh, (using gray water for watering your plants.)

I'd love to know what you end up planting.

I don't know what "grey-water" is and don't have time to research it.

jabber, grey water is the water from washing machines, sinks, bathtubs, that is essentially clean (where water from the toilet isn't) and can be used for irrigation. Instead of letting the water go into the sewer, it can be re-used to water plants, bushes, trees, and vegetable gardens. Many communities allow grey water; some communities don't allow it at all. A grey water system can be as simple as having a hose attached to the washing machine that goes directly into the yard; or as complicated as a cistern system with hoses, pumps, spigots, and timers.

Here's an article that explains a bit more about gray water for those of you who haven't heard the term: Using gray water in the home

Just for the record, hydrologists also talk about "black water," which is water that contains sewage... What is "Black Water?"

Which is kind of interesting, when you consider that there is a private military company that calls itself that: Blackwater Worldwide

yonuh and Anne,
Thank you for the insight. I understand using used washing machine water but I, however, put Chorox II in the loads, so I doubt if that would be good. I agree with waiting for a full load before running the machine. With such long, dry spells we certainly need to conserve the water resource. Thanks for explaining "gray water"!

PS: I had typed converse as opposed to conserve. That's funny.
And I even proofread it!!!

I don't think the Clorox II is a problem, jabber, as it doesn't have chlorine in it, but I don't know. I use Seventh Generation detergent and bleach alternative; there are other options that are safe for greywater systems, too.

I definitely stick to 7th Generation Products in general. I find it to be a trusted brand as well as environmentally friendly, something I am striving to pursue more and more.
