I just read that according to the US Dept of Energy, we all should have enjoyed some nice windfall savings on our heating costs this past winter.

Depending on what kind of heating fuel we use, the Feds say we probably saw our bill drop by 5% (for electricity), almost 9% (for propane), and 13% for natural gas.

We're a natural gas household here, but we're on a monthly payment plan, which means we pay the same amount each month, and then twice a year they re-evaluate our usage and adjust accordingly. Thus I didn't note any savings - yet.

But then again, we've had to deal with those pesky auto gas prices. Yikes, the prices jumped again the other day by a full five cents!! "Regular" is over $4 a gallon now - as we head into the summer.

At least I lucked out there a bit. Last bought gas when it was $3.99/gallon. The day BEFORE the current jump. Hosannah!

Can you believe gas prices these days? What's the desl with this government refusing the Canadian pipeline that would give us much lower prices from now on? Makes me sick and is such a burden on those already hurting.

Unfortunately, even if we drill more here, it isn't going to bring down the price. Prices are set globally, and speculators are driving up the price because of the uncertainty in the Middle East. And the pipeline will be built, over the objections of those who don't want it in their State. I certainly don't trust that the pipeline will be safe and not contaminate the aquifers where people get their drinking water.

Down in the South we saw gas prices as low as $3.55 a gal for
regular unleaded. Got home and the same octane is $3.99 per gal.

I don't really know the gas prices in our area because I've been car-free for past 3 decades.

Seriously. I see gas stations as a place to go to the washroom or pump up air into my bike tires when out in the rural areas. smile

I think it's great that you bike, orchid. We generally take our
two dogs, whenever we go anywhere. So a vehicle is a necessity.
And do a lot of geocaching, traveling long distances. Gasoline is a must and prices certainly fluctuate from state-to-state!
