Thanks for your good wishes on the occasion of US Labor Day, Jabber.

How is everyone doing?

I'm looking forward to my son's arrival in about 3 hours. He's on his way home to Des Moines from Green Bay in a one-day trip. We'll spend 5=6 hours with him and feed him, and then he'll have another 4 hours of driving ahead of him...

I haven't figured out yet what to serve. Waffling between a small pork roast and cheeseburgers. Either way, I've got corn on the cob as a side.

By the way, did I ever report on my experiment in making corn on the cob in the microwave? I tried that last Wednesday night, and it was very successful. I cooked it in the husk. Probably "old hat" to some, but it was new to me.

The Wednesday after Labor Day was the traditional start of school. Living in the Southwest now, schools begins very early......one even started July 31!

I recall all too clearly the hustle and bustle of getting "new school clothes", supplies etc:

Pencil cases, book bags, composition books, ruler, (non mechanical) pencils, crayons, paper etc. The excitement rose as we got ready for bed the night before, with anticipation of "what teacher will we get this year?"

Our grammar school consisted of three kindergarten classes, two each of first, second, third, fourth and one class for the fifth grade. So for the first four years of school, it was a mystery. Fifth grade was a given!

Now the fifth grade teacher happened to have been the same one my mother had and my two sisters ahead of me had as well! So, riding on their "shirt tails" was sure fun as they were all fondly remembered and favored from years back. Even though my two sisters, 11 months apart, were obviously not twins, they attended school together all throughout. So I'd get the "Oh, you're the twins' sister!" NO, they're not twins.....don't even look alike!

So, I digress........those feelings of September coming around will always be with me!
