Ladies,

Our topic about "collectibles" has sparked an idea in my tired brain.

Two things:

1. Wouldn't it be fun to do a boomer gift exchange this year.

It would be a "white elephant exchange. A white elephant is something you have in your home - that you would be HAPPY to bless someone else with (i.e. YOU don't want it) lol

2. The other thing, is that it would be fun to have the option to send Christmas cards to each other.

I would be willing to put the list together. (unless someone else would like to volunteer)

What do you think?

Danita

As long as everyone on the list doesn't ask for REAL pink 50 dollar bills, I think it's a wonderful idea. "White elephant" exchanges could be fun. Would the exchangees and exchangers just agree by PM to match up or would we/someone pick participating names out of a virtual hat?

Sounds like a fun idea. I would definitely like list for Christmas cards.

PS I like your title "Boomer Holiday"...maybe we could call it that so that nobody gets left out, since not everyone celebrates Christmas.

I think the White Elephant and card exchange are a great idea. I did this with another list I used to be on, but after a while the gift giving got out of hand. White Elephants would eliminate that problem.

O.K.

PM me your REAL name and address if you are interested in the card exchange and/or white elephant. Please also PM me your email address. (please specifiy if you only want to be included in one or the other)

I will compile the list and get it out.
I will also pull names for everyone.

I will plan on collecting names and addresses until Dec. 11th. Does that work for everyone?

D.

P.S. Dots, I hope this is o.k. with you! (big smile)

Thank you very much (humble smile)! Do I know how to party, or WHAT?

It will be fun to participate in the holidays as a group!

This way too...nobody will have to be alone. (sniffles).

How cute are you? Do you lay awake at night thinking up this stuff? Or maybe you have adult ADD - if you do, let's hope your offspring has the gene!

I'm in!

Noooooooo, I don't have adult ADD. Hmpf (lol).

I'm just creative, can't you see...and I love to party!

When everyone was sharing their collections, I just thought "hmmm, these are some fun tips for gift ideas for these ladies....Let's do something with that!"

I didn't even get the Dots' to say we could do this - but she's pretty easy!

My daughter in particular has my gift (of loving people, being intuitive)....it is fun to share these characteristics together!

d.

P.S. please do not forget to give me your email. This is how I will be sending out the Christmas Card list!

I'm waiting until tomorrow when I finally get my long-awaited high-speed Internet connection...that should make my browsing experience much more enjoyable. It will also change my email address, thus the wait.

I've been hunting all over my house for a white elephant...no can do. Guess I'll have to go pink after all.

Dots,

I've thought of that.

Firstly (if there is such a word...lol), everyone who wants to participate private messages me....their email and address.

Secondly, I will put together the list for Christmas cards, and knowing the kinds of women that are on this site -- this won't be a "6th grade card exchange". In other words, we will send cards to EVERYONE on the list. (not a requirement, but a suggestion!).

The gift exchange (white or pink elephant, whatever suits you)...I will match people together via a drawing.

I don't know how somebody can get left out, unless they don't sign up to participate.

Danita Darling...Well as you know we are getting new people daily and how or when do you set a cut off date??? Someone is going to be left out for sure. I am not clear on the card idea. Are we sending you our street address's and then you relay them to everyone or what? Seems a might confusing to me, hey maybe I have ADD?
I hate to be a party pooper but this idea seems destine for failure in many ways. Write me with the secifics please....I'm confused. [Eek!]

Dear befuddled,

I get all the addresses of those who want to participate....

I compile them into a list....I email them to all who are participating on Dec 11. Also on Dec. 11th - I will match white elephant partners.

The cut off date will be Dec. 10th.

This COULD be a failing endevor (or HOWEVER you spell that word)...but we will not know until we try!

hugs,

I've been on other lists where it was done successfully, and I never heard of any hurt feelings. Those who wanted to participate, did. Of course, those lists had a lot fewer people participating.

Searcher, I came up with the pink elephant idea, based on comments made in the Collections thread...Danita mentioned collecting $100 bills, then I countered with collecting pink $50 bills, and now that's what everyone wants me to send them for Christmas. So when I couldn't find any suitable white elephant idea for this Holiday exchange, I teased everyone about possibly having to resort to the PINK elephant (meaning those $50 bills...in your dreams everyone!) (If it's meant to be, something miraculous is going to have to happen between now and the deadline for mailing those elephants out!!)

Is that a little less bumfuzzling?

YOU know, ha ha ha and lol just doesn't cut it lately. not tee hee either. Good grief, what would happen if we all got together - they'd be sending in swat teams!! And Eagle, where'd you say we stole that word again? And as SOn Sam would say - brain fart #3?

Chick - lay off the sauce. but can I have some before you do? Ahhhhh, the color of pink....

And who was it that was talking about the Boomer roller coaster? Western was that yu? NO KIDDING. Up, down, UP, down, Up, down......Best roller coaster I've found since - you know that famous wooden coaster in Chicago in the 50' and 60's - brain fart #4.......Used to think of it all year 'til I got to go. Same here.

You do know that the pink $50's are real, right? That's what colour they are here in Canada; sure makes a person feel good to look in your wallet and see some pink stuff in there! Doesn't happen to me very often these days, but I still remember the pleasures of pink from my richer days.

And that's a lot of brain farting going on in your corner of the world...is there actually a sound that goes with that phenomena??

Bumfuzzle - came from Kygal. She hasn't been here in awhile, but left us this wonderful word that I'm sure is going to become a well-used word for some of us.

Eagle,
I have a grandson who is an expert on farts. He uses the word as often as he can and giggles at any sentence with the word fart in it.

I just called to ask his professional opinion of brain farts. He assured me they don't make a sound. He did tell me about a couple of other types of farts that you might want to be aware of though. There's the all important S.B.D. Those are "silent but deadly" farts. Then there's "Popcorn farts" which also silent and the term is used to describe something that is futile as in "That's nothing but a popcorn fart."

Well, that is all I know for now about farts. I'm sure there are other boomers who can add their expertise to this highly intellectual discusssion.

And BTW, my Dad always pronounced bumfuzzle as fumbuzzle. I guess he was bumfuzzled. Or maybe he was fumbuzzled. Or maybe the whole thing was just one big brain fart.

smile, one year someone gave us a book about farts. You have to find it for your grandson. It lists every imaginable fart and gives a description. This sounds crazy, but I recall one of our first Christmas evenongs in our home where we sat around with lots of family (before kids) and discussed farts for hours, roaring hysterically. One person in attendance later told us it wasn't an appropriate conversation for Christmas evening. OOPS! It was way too funny. Why don't you search farts on Amazon?

Come to think of it, I don't know where that book is now, or else I'd send it to you.

I recall as a child, getting so many giggles out of this topic. But we weren't allowed to say fart. In fact, I can't believe I'm typing it. HA! For some reason our family called them bunnies. Don't ask why. I haven't a clue.

Oh, one of the favorites was stair-step farts (a little toot for every step while running to go to the bathroom.) Okay, enough!

Smile, I wonder if I should hire your son as a "home fart consultant". I have a husband and brother who could blow him away with their "abiities" in that department. Honestly, they're just like two little 5-year-old boys when they get together. ESPECIALLY on Christmas day.

(And with our Christmases having undergone such drastic changes over the past years, I'm glad that there's at least one tradition that's remained intact!)

I have to say the funniest ones I ever heard came from my Mom. I guess they'd fit into the popcorn variety. But all the way from her chair in the living room to the bathroom down the hall you could hear this series of teeny tiny popgun sounds, and we swore they were propelling her down the hallway. It was all we could do not to howl with laughter, it was so cute, especially if you knew our Mom, who was a "proper" and genuine lady right to the end...but even she was heard to be giggling to herself further down that hallway!

Danita, I remember your Poopie post, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't remember if I actually responded, but I do remember wondering how on earth I would respond to it! But I should have at least let you know I enjoyed it...I have a feeling most of us howled, but just weren't as brave as you to come right out and admit we did.

Eagle, that's so funny about your mom and the stairway. We would never say such a word in our household either, or really ever discuss such things - my mom, too, was a pretty proper, Southern Belle.
But today, I have a friend whose husband calls her "MY Little Fart Blossom"!...LOL

You ladies are SOO funny! My mom would never talk about farting, let alone admit she ever did it! Bodily functions were not something we were allowed to talk about when I was growing up. She was very concerned that I should always be a "lady." If the dear woman only realized how determined that sometimes made me not to be one.

Ho hum, and Smile and Dotsie as soon as I stop laughing and farting uncontrolably, I will be shocked, LOL what a blast and Danita I read the poopie post and made a copy of it, funniest thing I ever saw....think I'll go bring it up again so the new gals can read it too.... When my twin boys were around five, farts was the normal conversation for them.
We were in LA getting ready to go to Disneyland, and stopped for a bite to eat.
Before, leaving the car we told the boys...No Fart talking in the restaurant. We made it all the way through dinner, ready to leave. Daniel looks at me and says in only the loudest voice ever, "see mommie we didn't even say fart once", smile spread clear across his face and back..
Ever one in the place was rollin.
Kids, gotta love em!

Yep,

I am literally laughing out loud. God love the little devils!

I can't believe you gals are still talking about this, I brought up the word about 3 pages ago, not dreaming it would set up a whole topic! How funny is that? Danita, you topped that with your 'poopie' stories - where have we all come to? If we all got together, we'd have to order a complete supply of "underpads" or "chuks" or some other pee preventing barrier to handle our Boomer laughing bladders......Oh geesh. Too funny. What are our Mothers thinking? Are they rolling over in their graves, or thinking, "Wish I had had the guts to say that!!!!"...WAAAAAY funny. And my son wouldn't even BELIEVE you if you said I was in on this conversation!!! ('cause I am always telling him, DON"T spit, I MEAN IT!!!That's disgusting. I just won't have it!.......Of course he spits. Ugh. Ugh. and Ugh. MY SON? apparently so. Where o where did I fail?

And speaking of spitting,

I have a story. (amazed?). One night, Sam's father and I were going out on the town in Chicago. It was somebody's birthday, can't remember whose - but we were going to the THEATRE, DINNER, and the whole nine yards. So I dressed up in my little black - heels to match- spikes with little straps - couldn't walk a step without help! So he got out of the car, walked two steps, and SPIT on the street. I got so mad, that in my heels, my little black dress, and my stole, I walked around the car, and HOARKED one right on the street!!!!!! Then said , "How'd THAT look??? He just stood there, speachless and looked at me. In a minute or so, he came and took my arm and we regally went up the steps to the THEATRE. Point taken.

Dots, I'm sure my grandson would love the fart book. Although he may already have more information than he needs.

And Eagle, I assure you, the kid's a fart expert. He could definitely be a consultant. He and his brother compete with scores for the loudest fart. However, your mother may hold the record for the longest fart.

Farts, just another area of boomer expertise.

Searcher, we're a mysterious paradox, we Boomer women! We can talk for pages on the most serious topics there are, like war, sexual abuse, suicide, domestic violence and cruelty to animals...and we can talk for pages on things that don't matter at all...like, well, let's see, only just recently here we've had pages of discussion on Chippendales, beaded flip-flops, Oreo's, stale Jello, poopies and farts.

That's what makes this place so awesome...we cry together, we rage together, we pray together (and through our respective belief systems, no less), and then we laugh together, ROTFLPMP (protection anyone?) like many of us haven't laughed for a long, long time.

This truly is a remarkable place.

Boys and farts! My grandson must feel it's his duty to inform me every time. Last week he put his bottom against me so I could get the full impact - what a character! He takes after his dad.

Totally in agreement, Eagle. Ain't great? Blue, it just gets "off' from one to another, huh? And now I'm not so sure it IS testosterone - maybe a little female hormone in there as well?

To put peoples minds at ease, I am not financially able to participate this year in anything extra. I live in Ohio and am going to Texas for the first time in 10 yrs to be with my sons, grandchildren, family and friends for Christmas. Plus we have so many parties, 6, to go to that have white elephants or larger gifts that are for my husbands 2 work places.

I will not be upset or feel left out because I cannot participate! If I were new and the cut off date past, or I was not sure of giving out my personal info, I would not feel left out either.

I say, all who can party on and fill us in later! I would love hearing about it! You must set a date after Jan 1st, LOL, when I am back in town so I can read all about it! Naw! Do it whenever you want, I will find it!

It is a great idea!

Back to the fart topic. [Eek!] We called them air fluffs. Geesh. There is also the forced fart.

Junebug, have a wonderful trip to TX. Love that state.

Ladies,

Our topic about "collectibles" has sparked an idea in my tired brain.

Two things:

1. Wouldn't it be fun to do a boomer gift exchange this year!

It would be a "white elephant exchange". A white elephant gift is something you already have in YOUR home that you will HAPPILY pass on to someone else (i.e. YOU don't want it)

2. The other thing, is that it would be fun to have the option to send Christmas cards to each other.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN BOTH OR EITHER OF THE ABOVE:

PM me your REAL name and address

Please also PM me your email address. (please specifiy if you only want to be included in one or the other)

I will compile the list and get it out.

I will pull names for the white elephant gift exchange for everyone and notify who has who for the gift exchange.

I will plan on collecting names and addresses until Dec. 11th.

Around the 5th of Dec. I will post a list of names in this forum of everyone I have heard of to-date.

This activity is open to everyone who would like to participate!

hugs,
danita

Chatty Lady

IF you are interested, please "PM" me with your real name, address, and email address.

Tks!

Bringing this back up to the top -- to see who else would like to participate.

I will probably email the first "wave" of names out in the next couple of days!

hugs,
danita

p.s. the previous post with the list of names are still the only ones participating to date.

Seems a bit empty to me in responses. Thats the trouble with trying to do something different or sweet most of the time the response is not there. Maybe now that thanksgiving is over more will want to be involved...if not at least you put forth the effort Danita, you're a champ.

Thanks for the kind words!

Maybe just a few of us do it...I don't have a problem with that! I just want to keep bringing it up - in case someone has missed it and would be blessed by participating!

Ok Dots,

I am totally in the dog house.

YOU are the one who ends up being left out. YIKES.

I was going to give you a hard time telling you that you didn't tell me you wanted to be "in"...I figured you didn't want to give out your address or something...so I scoured the postings and found where you said you were "in".

ughhhhhh. I goofed. I don't think I ever got a PM or email from you.....

I've enjoyed receiving the cards from my boomer sisters! I received my Heaven in a Jar from Danita and have already tried them. There is an sugar exfoliating cream and a nice thick body cream that smells heavenly. I may get hooked on them!

I have had the most "awesomest" boomer holdiay ever!

I came home late yesterday - after a full day - and there was a box on the table. I'm like, "hmmm, I wonder what this is".

I opened it...and it was a gift from the boomer gift exchange. I felt 10 years old again. Daisy filled the box with wonderful little presents...a new stapler...how did you know???!!!

Anyhow, the gift was the topping on my day. Thanks so much Daisy!!!!

hugs,

Danita, I'm glad you liked your gift. Those are items my employer distributes. Some people are addicted to office supplies, especially the cute ones, and some aren't. It was interesting that you sent what you sell and so did I.

I hope I can knit something for next year's exchange!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Chatty,

the table runner is beautiful! Many thanks and it will be put to good use tomorrow at lunch. My mother in law already has me buying a set of Christmas dishes, placemats, napkins, candles, candle holders, etc. to go with the runner! :>) Frankly, I'm gonna feel really, really good about myself if I get the table cleared off and have the runner highlighted.

Thanks again and I hope to use it in good health for many years.

Merry Christmas,

Sandra

Bluebird, I typically know my limits but during the holiday season it all goes out the window. Our Christmas season is out of control.I blame it on my parents and my husband's parents because both of us grew up with big Christmas's.

All went well Christmas day at my sons home. Everyone had a ball and the whole place was so warm and cozy and full of love. The next day after Christmas my son and grandson came over to see my house and pick up some extra brownies I made for them and forgot to take to the party. The rest of the day I relaxed and read been a bit under the weather...I agree Danita that the gift exchange was a great idea and I think went rather well for the most part....

Please let me know how to join next year, too, chatty lady! I missed out simply because I got so involved with getting ready for the holidays I didn't get to the computer to read what was going on - it's my fault! But SO much fun to spend Christmas with our son's family - our granddaughter turned 2 in September and our identical twin grandsons turned 1 in November! I've never had a better Christmas! My husband and I are still on a "high" from it! By next Christmas we may have moved back closer to the Denver area, but I will still be 'here' and taking part in the exchange!

I have to agree, Chatty. I think the card exchange was a huge success. I loved opening up my cards, and reading the messages from my boomer "sisters".

I will definitely sign up for next year's event.

I totally missed out on this part of the holiday. I did receive several cards from Boomer Sisters and was very happy when I got one. I just didn't have any extra time to do anything this year. I skipped cards all together this year. Thinking of sending out a New Years Letter just to get my family updated.

I'm glad you all had fun, and hope to get more involved next time.

Sherri

Thanks for the cards!

Vicki,

If I told you I was a mindreader, would you believe me?

Seriously, I'm glad you liked it. There's nothing better than pampering yourself.

I feel awful and embarrsed that I didn't get a chance to send to my Boomer sister yet. Things have been hetic and my one sister that promised to sent me some money in a card didn't actually send hers. However, I know Next Holiday Season I'll have something picked out for the next Boomer sister or friend. Sorry I have been ghosting I been having some ups and downs the last few weeks.

MyangelinheavenEVE, please don't beat yourself up about not honoring your commitment to the gift exchange. If you're broke, you're broke and that is not somewhere anyone choses to be. I too have been there in the past where very penny counted. It was a lovely holiday for me and I hope for you it was filled with love and the New Year brings you health, wealth and happiness. HUGS... MyangelinheavenEVE, I hear you and can relate! I had to bow out of the gift exchange very close to the last minute. It's a tough time of year, and for some of us, even "one more tiny gift" puts us beyond where we can go. It was humbling for me to have to pull out, but, well, now I'll plan ahead for next year and work it into my budget well ahead of time.

I hope you know that whoever your Boomer sister is, she knows and understands and is probably just grateful for the priceless gift of your presence in her life.

Don't feel bad anyone... I couldn't do it either. Gifts? Whats that? But next year I intend to play. I can't wait. It makes it exciting and something to plan for, and look forward to...and we have Danita to thank for it.

Sounds like the participation is going to be huge next year Danita! wuhoooo!

Wonderful, ladies!! I look forward to participating
in next season's exchanges, since I just joined.

Some other forums I belong to...we've done the
exchanges for years and it is so much fun, as
long as I am not the one organizing, lol.

Ya know, I'm a party girl. I love to have fun, laugh, and bless others. It's no big deal - I guess being able to come up with amazing ideas (lol) and implementing them is my gift.

Danita, To make a long story short (one of my New Year's resolutions!), I only just discovered this morning that ALL of the email sent to my new Eagle email address has been sitting in an online Inbox since mid-November. I thought it was configured to download into my Outlook along with my regular email. But I've been noticing lately that I'm missing things, especially email that some of my Boomer sisters said they sent me, including your card list way back in December. Well, this morning I finally did some investigating and found it...all 60 emails (plus about 60 more SPAM!) Duh. And to think I used to be a certified computer techie!!

So to you, and any of my other Boomer sisters who have written emails to me through my Eagle address since mid-November, my apologies for not responding to you!!!

I wonder how many book orders I've missed out on, since they would have come off my website and may have gotten mixed in with the SPAM stuff, which gets automatically deleted after 30 days. Hmmmmm.

Ladies you have to read at least your email daily, boy I sure do or would be buried and never get out from under it. Luckily I have a super junk mail sorter so don't have to deal with it very much. Usually fron 20 to 40 are sorted out everyday as junk, geesh!!!

I've lost track of the amount of email my junk sorter weeds out every day. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with most of it. Only problem is, it will weed out mail from any addy it doesn't recognize. So I have to be careful to put new email friends on my list of good people. LOL

If you get the chance Ms D, tell us about the expo, where it is, what you'll be doing, etc...I find it sooo interesting! And that stuff you sent me, holy moly...my skin feels sooooo good after I use it. You sure I can't drink it? Make a little toddy?

Hi J.J.,

I wanted to PM you to see how you were liking that pot of magic - I've started using mine every other day lately - it's like such a treat..and I can just lay in bed and feel how soft my skin feels. lol (did I say that outloud?)

I've wanted to do a business expo forever. I LOVE to gather people together - I consider it one of my gifts. I found 2 people to do it with me - so we are working it.

We will have 75 UNIQUE vendors - no duplicates - no competitiion. The goal is to share networks (I know a ton of people that you don't know)..and just to get out there in the community.

We found a wonderful church with a HUGE sancturary and great accoustics...we will have vendor door prizes, and a cash door prize as well...and a DJ who will do all of that work.

Anywho, it is very intensive work..and I have alot going on in my life in addition to that.

Thanks for asking!

Danita
