If she keeps cryin' give her something to cry about.

Crocodile tears is all they are.

Beggers can't be choosers. <--- ALL THE TIME, I hate that saying now, but have started to use it, does that mean I'm getting old???? lol

And this my Father gave me one year..gosh I was like 12...
two men looked out thru prison bars,
the one saw mud, the other stars.

Told me I would understand it one day. I did, but it was REALLY stupid to give that to a 12 yr old.

for relationships

"If you can't be the tablecloth don't be the dish towel"
"Don't be like the Spaniards and kill all the little Indians"

Hey! You had to know my mother! Can't say I've never been the dish towel but I haven't killed many Indians!

Mountain, Mom always said , "There before the grace of God go I." Now I say it.

Jane, I've never heard either of them.

Speaking of relationships:
Now my mom never said this but I've heard and read it:
Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
Any of your mothers say that?

Dotsie,

The cow and the milk is the same meaning as the dish towel and the table cloth. Just grew up further in the country! The Indians meant not to take advantage of others just becaue you could.
