I am putting together a top ten list of what boomer women want to use on this site and in an article.

Speak up ladies. Now's the time to let me know what you want so we can tell the world.

Here are a couple ideas to get us started.

- Respect for the choices we've made.

- Fashionable clothes that fit.

- Healthy relationships.

- Social Security benefits.

- Affordable health care.

Number one choice: Chocolate!!

I think we should have an annual FUN conference; one that deals with our specific issues, but in a fun, humorous way.

Most of the "senior" conferences, seminars, expos, etc, are full of dull, drab talks about financial planning, funeral planning, or long term care.

While those issues are important, I think we also need to LIVE FOR TODAY! We can discuss those things in an enjoyable way - with fun speakers - and fun events.

I'll be the first to sign up to help with this project - and I'll be the first to have a booth there as well.

Okay, misunderstood what you wanted. (But I still like the idea of a FUN conference for all the ladies!)

You want 10 items we want for an article or for this site...hmmm...

How about these?

- We want our voices to be heard (political issues, retirement issues, work issues, financial issues, etc)

- In the work force, we want our age to be recognized as experience, not as someone who is heading toward senility

- We want to enjoy our lives right up until the end

- We want to share our experiences to help others less fortunate

I think we want all those things, but they sound so OLD.

Personally, I want want to feel twenty-five, look twenty-five and have frequent and fabulous sex. I want to over do it. I want to make mistakes. I want to laugh at myself and the world. I want to sing, dance, and eat chocolate all the way to the grave.

Top 10 items I'd like?
- Time to be more and do less
- People of different viewpoints who want to have an honest discussion without histrionics or soundbites
- Education that teaches children to think, so I can have the above discussion with them
- Love (agape) == that's really number 1
- Shoes that look great and don't hurt my feet
- A magical melting of all the fat on my body so I can be the same size I was in my 30s.
- The energy of my youth and the wisdom of today
- HUGS for everyone
- Knowing I am perfect and life is perfect, just the way it is

I don't know how or if this fits into a topic-friendly want, but I want to not be forgotten. To not slip through the "in-between cracks" - in between obvious usefulness and the grave.

I love the idea of a fun conference!

Smile, I'm with you on every single item you've listed. That's the to-do list I want too! With banana splits and cheesecake all along the way.

I have to agree with both Smile and Casey but would add for us all the ability to feel and be SAFE, be able to go out, be out and about without the fear of the crazies. I remember never feeling scared, not anymore however. I want to feel SAFE in and out of my home. Another one that plagues us all is TRUST, I want to be able to TRUST men. what they say, how they behave and TRUST the women around me to have no secret agendas..

I want adventure in my life until the end. I hope I'm still trying new things up to the end. I would love to have great sex also, but I first have to find a man I can trust and love. Now that will be an adventure!

1) Better, better, better women's health care. More attention to women's health needs from adolescence to old age.

There has hardly been a new birth control method introduced in the last 40 years. The most common surgery in America is (surprise!) is the hysterectomy. Approval of already existing, in-use, extensively clinically tested menopause meds not available in America--the Land of a Million Lawsuits.

Until the menopause med I take--Livial--is approved in America, I'm not coming back. It has absolutely fixed my miserable menopause mess and I refuse to live without it. Period.

2) The end of spending half the nation budget on monsterous military expenses and weapons development. It's wasting the health and the future of our country.

3) National health insurance

4) An end to the fiasco of the failed public school system. Vouchers for all, public or private. If the school sucks it'll go out of business and bad teachers and administrators can find other employment. Our children are being tested to death and not getting an education in the process.

5) An end to ridiculous government subsidies that cost billions. Like the "Oil Depletion Allowance" and massive payouts to agribusinesses.

6) More investment in better public transit. Tax dollars not spent subsidizing agribusiness could be well spent on transportation systems all over America. A lot of us would leave our cars at home if we had viable transit options (and I don't mean some creaky diesel spewing once-an-hour bus).

"Government by the people, of the people, for the people" seems to have lost it's way.

Love all the ideas listed. You know it's not too far fetched to expect more from our government on all levels. Ours is the largest generation and women outnumber men. We really do need to "Speak" up, start a revolution!

On a less global front though...

We are a generation of women in transition, always have been. I feel we're missing out on so much because of programmed beliefs that undermine our self-esteem. We're not perfect but who on this earth is? I think we could all use a good dose of "Acceptance" for who and what we are. So how do we go about doing that? Is there a 12 step program for Boomer Women so we can let go of all the should have's, what if's, if only's and regrets we all deal with that hold us back?

Deep subject, I know. But if for no other reason, a good motivational speaker on this subject would sure inject a feel-good-about-ourselves moment into the itenary.

This is all so great. I think I may have to do a serious list and a fun one. How does that sound?

On a serious note, I am probably in the minority, but I wish the government would get out of my life, especially healthcare. I don't know where they got the constitutional mandate for that anyway.

I am all for the increased security measures to avert danger to our country which is in the constitution. But I don't want the governemnt involved in healthcare at all. Government is what made it so expensive in the first place.

When Medicare came in, it eliminated the family doctor. It eliminated his ability to be generous with his services. It eliminated the barter system where people paid for medical care in eggs or farm goods. It eliminated house calls. It eliminated charity in hospitals entiredly.

Government intervention in healtcare is a horrible thing. It makes us all dependent and when we depend on the government for something as personal as healthcare, it is dangerous. We will soon be forced to ration healthcare. If we left it to the capitalistic system and paid for our own care, people wouldn't get medicated for every little thing and then re-medicated again and again for the side effects and eventually depend on medication to live. Then the doctors would have to compete for our dollar and prices would come down.

There is information available now so we could compare morbitiy and mortality rates among doctors and facilities, but it is protected by the govt. If we had that, we could shop and get the best service for the least money. And we would all be doing exactly that if we were the ones paying.

Not a popular viewpoint, but it's true. The govt. has no business in healthcare and doctors have no business doing business. They're healers, not businessmen.

Are HMOs government? I thought they were insurance concoctions. I understand your point about Medicare, but I think the more serious step was "managed health care."

Yes, let's accept ourselves, Tami, warts and all. And let's accept other people, especially women, even if we disagree with them. Let's just have a love in! LOL!

I'm actually semi-serious. Tami has hit the nail on the head. When we truly love ourselves and accept ourselves, it's more difficult to let others knock us around emotionally, physically and intellectually.

Casey! You are a WiseWomanShining! Just a few small changes make such a difference. I'm not advocating we become self-centered or egotistical, rather allowing ourselves the slight shift of focus to acknowledge and commend all the good things we've done instead of constantly reminding ourselves of our failures. How about feeling good about that failure because, by golly, at least I tried! Appreciating what we have in our lives instead of longing for the things we don't have is one of my favorites. Such a tiny shift that can totally change one's outlook on life!

Men are men as far as that goes. I personally do't want to have to train some younger man, I raised two of those. Give me a nice quiet man that likes animals and loves to laugh and of course spoil me and I will be content... honest injun!

I want to be healed of all my insecurities more quickly than it's happening.

I want people to stop thinking Christian 'should' be this or that, and realize everyone is all a person.

I want Christians to stop being doormats and passive and start taking a stand for things and to quit being lazy and start voting.

I want a magic pill to drop #5 a day. AND take up the skin slack.

I want a fun conference. And I'll be the first to say I will [need help to do this] but I will put together the first one here in Phoenix, in the Winter or Spring.

I want to STOP being so dang serious.

I want to find a contract manufacturer who is honest and dependable. Mostly honest, who doesn't put a ton of stuff in the contract to protect themselves with precious little to help their client.

I want great health.

I want sex. I want a husband who wants sex. And maybe yes, Chatty, I want an older man. But I have a younger man and must deal with what I have.

I want to be able to get on boards like this and be able to say shit without someone raising an eyebrow, because I really DO say it at home and I'm tired of fingers pointing and unreal people.

And I'd better stop. I didn't take my pills on a regular basis and I can tell in my feelings and speaking behavior.

Oh, I want to be able to DRINK my supplements and have them work that way.

And I want all my friends to not be sick and not hurt, and i want to celebrate all the people who have conquered something.

I think I will start a new thread on that.

And thank you for letting me vent and talk and talk and talk.

And thank you for not making me be a 'professional' on here.
cause I'm NOT and it's really hard to be it sometimes.

love
JaMa
