Injured Sparrow

While walking the wetlands today I saw a sparrow,
sitting on a wooden bridge that was so narrow.

It flittered and fluttered but did not fly,
When I saw it's broken wing I wanted to cry.

I eased up closer scooping it up in my blouse.
Junped on my bike and hurried with it to my house.

Inside on a blanket I let it free,
Reeta and Rosee were just starring at me.

As if to say mommy what have you brought,
Is it a meal, or a toy what is that you've got?

With string and wooden matches I mended its wing,
placed it in an empty birds cage and it began to sing.

I fed it mashed up worms and beetles to keep it well,
it made us all laugh when it started pecking at a bell.

In just three weeks the bird wing was all heeled,
I let it fly around the screened-in porch, it was big, yet sealed.

We called the tiny sparrow twirp,
becsause when well all she did was chirp.

I opened the door on Sunday morning and off she flew,
Where she was going, or if she'd get there we had no clue...
