Newt is definitely an intriguing character; unfortunately, he seems to blow either hot or cold: no in-between. And he just cannot control his mouth. His latest -- the idea that federal judges should be arrested if they issue unpopular decisions, should be considered shocking in a country that prides itself on making change at the ballot box.

If we can drag federal judges before Congress or the president to explain what they have done, why cannot people do the same to their own representatives? Why not the president? Sure, people often get ticked off at judicial rulings. But judges are supposed to be free from political pressure so they're not just lapdogs. Otherwise, why have them at all? If we think lifetime appointments for judgeships is a bad idea we can change the law. If Gingrich really, really wants to advance the idea that he doesn't have to obey laws he finds objectionable, well, so can all the rest of us. Is this what he really wants?
