These are really simple, and good on cold mornings. The recipes feed two hungry people. All prepare in 5-10 minutes total. I alternate between these four:

1. Farina
this is Cream of Wheat, basically, but I buy it from the bulk bin at my local health food store, 49 cents/lb. instead of $3 for a 12 oz. box.
Boil 2 cups water. Add 1/4 tsp. salt
slowly add 1/2 cup farina, stir as you go.
Takes 5 minutes. Add 1 TBS. margarine or butter.

2. Nine Grain Cereal +
Again from the bulk bin. Time about 10 minutes.
Boil 2 cups water.
Add 1/2 cup 9-grain cereal, + 1 TBS. black sesame seeds, and 1 TBS. whole flax seed.
Add these spices: 1/4 tsp. salt + about 1/8 tsp. each of cardomom, cumin, coriander, and garlic.
1/2 tsp. olive oil
optional: 2 tsp. raw sugar

3. Garlic Mashed potatoes and soybeans (honest!)
I use Trader Joe's mashed potato mix for 2 servings.
Boil water, milk and margarine.
Add 1/2 cup frozen shelled soybeans to boiling water.
Salt + 1/2 TBS. minced garlic
add mashed potatoes.
5 minutes total.

4. Fancy Oatmeal
10 minutes total
Boil 2 cups water.
Add 2/3 cups steel cut oats (I think that's what they're called. The medium sized whole oat flakes)
1/4 cup unsweetened dried coconut
1/4 tsp. salt. 1/8 tsp. each: cinnamon, ginger.
When most of the water is absorbed into the oatmeal, add 1/3 cup raisins.
