Hi, KateRyan: Calories convert to energy. The calories burn according to the activities we undertake. So, the more you do, the more you burn. The paunch is not necessarily all fat. It could also be slack muscles which walking will help tone. There are also abdominal exercises you can do at home which are not high-powered ones but effective. I gave up soda after having been told that a litre bottle of Coke has 40 spoons of sugar in it. Happy walking!
